The Payroll Administrator calculates and maintains records of all withholdings, provides various reports of payroll activities to management for use in business decisions, and to government agencies as requested. This position also provides back-up to the Finance Team. Administer the full cycle payroll for salaried and unionized employees, including timesheet review, time entry, identification and resolution of coding errors, direct deposit preparation and paystub distribution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly payroll, communicate with all internal stakeholders and employees in the field
  • Maintain confidential employee records and files
  • Be the contact for unions, prepare union remittances and complete required reporting
  • Ensure all union agreements are up to date and maintain union tables within the accounting system
  • Prepare all required government forms (ROEs) and remittances
  • Stay current with payroll regulations, standards and best practices
  • Assist with design and implementation of efficiency initiatives (new software, paperless office)
  • Prepare labour reports as required by Construction / Service / Safety department

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years of work experience preparing payroll using a computerized payroll system
  • Must possess or be working towards a Canadian Payroll Association PCP or CPM designation or equivalent experience
  • Multi-province payroll experience (Ontario and Quebec) is considered an asset.
  • Experience with accounting concepts related to payroll
  • Able to deal with people sensitivity, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Experience with UKG would be an asset
  • Experience in a union environment is required
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.)
