JOB SUMMARY
The Payroll Administrator will ensure that all aspects of the payroll cycle are processed in a timely and accurate manner, and in accordance with government legislation and City policies, using the ADP WorkForceNow (WFN) system. Prepare ad hoc complex calculations, respond to payroll inquiries, and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work within a team to process 12 bi-weekly payrolls for Full Time, Part Time, Union and Non Union for both salaried & hourly employees.
  • Input manual adjustments, as required , and review and make appropriate changes in the payroll entries.
  • Process and balance associated bi-weekly / monthly payroll tasks, OMERS pension, bank files, garnishments, WSIB, EHT, Union Dues and all other payroll deductions.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll journal entries.
  • Complete various ad hoc, complex calculations (e.g. Gross up calculations, Tax estimates, etc.).
  • Prepare / amend Records of Employment (ROE) for relevant employees.
  • Communicate and respond effectively to payroll inquiries in a timely, accurate and professional manner with tact and diplomacy. Prioritize and determine the appropriate course of action and follow up to ensure resolution.
  • Cross train on all responsibilities within the department to ensure back-up and support for payroll team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • High School Diploma or higher
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in a high functioning payroll department
  • Payroll Certified Practitioner (PCP) designation completed or in progress
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of the Canadian Government legislative requirements.
  • Solid experience processing payroll with ADP software.
  • Experience with ADP WorkForceNow (WFN) an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel & Outlook)
  • General payroll related accounting knowledge
  • Willingness to ask questions and ability to interact effectively in a team environment
  • Proven critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with strict confidence and within deadlines
  • Ability to work Independently on payroll while supporting Payroll administration
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
