About the role:

In a complex, matrixed organization, the Chief Financial Officer, Canada, will lead, direct, and control the company’s financial resources to maintain the short- and long-term financial health of the organization. Demonstrating superior relationship management, sound judgment, and exceptional leadership, the local CFO will advocate for the needs of the Canadian business unit, influence senior stakeholders with competing interests, and drive financial success for the local organization. The Chief Financial Officer, Canada will be a critical resource for the Canadian business unit, and will contribute significantly to strategic planning, decision making, and the representation of the business in interactions with external parties.

Ultimately responsible for the attraction, retention, motivation, and engagement of associates across the organization.

  • Establishing, managing, measuring, and achieving department goals. Accountable for the overall effectiveness and performance of the department, including ensuring the department is structured to meet business needs.
  • Leading, directing, evaluating, and developing staff to ensure efficiency of the department, satisfaction of customers and clients, and to maximize associate performance.
  • Creating a high performance culture and leading the team to achieve success in building a trusted Finance team. Developing strategies and tactical plans to effectively address concerns.

Providing top executive level strategic leadership in ensuring the company’s financial resources to maintain the short and long-term financial health of the business. Providing overall department accountability and leadership.

  • Leading, directing, and controlling the company’s financial resources to maintain the short and long-term financial health of the business.
  • Directing all financial functions to ensure they meet the company’s business objectives, and are conducted in accordance with regulations and accounting principles.
  • Contributing to strategic planning and decision-making at the top executive level to develop and implement a financial strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives.
  • Directing the preparation of the company’s financial reports, such as profit and loss accounts, balance sheet, management financial reports, and regulatory reports and filings.
  • Evaluating acquisitions, investments, capital expenditure, divestitures, mergers, or the sale of assets to ensure they are financially viable.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with external parties, such as landlords, banks, investment analysts, and other financial institutions.
  • Providing technical advice and knowledge to others within the Finance discipline.
  • Representing the company in interactions with external parties in order to protect the company’s interests and reputation.
  • Working closely with the CEO and senior management team on strategic decisions relating to strategic growth, inspiring employees, achieving operational targets and generating results.
  • Partnering regionally and globally on projects and initiatives.

What it takes:

  • University Degree in a related discipline, coupled with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the field of Finance
  • A minimum of 10 years’ Finance experience at a senior level, including budget preparation/analysis and complex reporting requirements.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing people.
  • Certified Professional Accountant designation.
  • An understanding of the industry, market, client, business development and governmental trends affecting AGA’s competitiveness
  • Insurance experience considered a strong asset
  • Ability to think strategically forward in a 3-5 year time span and be able to develop strategies and plans to meet future-facing goals.
  • Proven ability to understand a variety of different personalities and to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidence at all times and in all situations.
  • Must be able to maintain composure in difficult circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making without direct authority. Ability to exercise good judgement.
  • Proven results oriented leader with a demonstrated ability to gain the respect and trust of employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment preferred.
  • Strong EQ and self-awareness
  • Strong technical skills in various types of software, such as MS Excel, SAP Accounting.
