Nova Scotia Health Authority provides health services to Nova Scotians and some specialized services to Maritimers and Atlantic Canadians. We operate hospitals, health centres and community-based programs across the province. Our team of health professionals includes employees, doctors, researchers, learners and volunteers that provide the health care or services you may need. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.


Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Advisor is responsible for interpreting data entered by numerous departments across the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) to anticipate, intercept and correct errors for bi-weekly payment processing ensuring collective agreements and policies are followed for approximately 23,000 employees.

The Payroll Advisor works within specific time frames and administers records associated with the payroll process e.g. Record of Employment, etc. Provides customer service support, guidance, information and advice to all stakeholders internal and external to the NSHA.


* Grade 12 or equivalent required

* Graduate of an accredited two-year accounting program or graduate of the one year Canadian Payroll Association

Introductory Course and willing to complete the remaining modules

* Minimum two (2) years recent payroll experience required

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, (Excel, Word, Outlook)

* Excellent communication and customer service skills

* Demonstrated verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills

* Must be able to work in a team environment

* Well developed organization and daily planning skills

* Effective research and analytical thinking skills

* Effective conflict resolution and rapport-building skills

* Demonstrated effective work practice – accountable, dependable, flexible, persevering, results orientated

* Ability to work independently, with continual interruptions, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to


* Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

* Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

* Permanent, Full-time Position; 70 Hours Bi-weekly

Salary Information

$24.8343 - $27.4682 hourly
