The Associate Business Manager will be responsible for providing contract management and operational finance support to Vancouver programming and plant operations.  The position will report directly to the Regional Controller for the West Region and will work closely with the Programming Director, Current Affairs as well as the production teams. The Associate Business Manager will be a key contact for contracting, expense management and providing direction and support to production staff on finance-related issues, policies and business practices.

Duties for this role include:

Contract Management & Performer Payroll:

  • Prepare both standard and non-standard freelance contracts in Livelink in accordance with the various collective agreements (including CMG, unaffiliated, WGC, ACTRA, CFM).
  • Prepare payments and/or release payments against freelance contract services as well as associated travel and production expenses.
  • Prepare Livelink contracts and renewals for CBC staff and contract employees.
  • Act as first point of contact for freelancer questions regarding payment; handle reissuing of payments when necessary.
  • Serve as contract and Livelink expert and provide guidance to managers and producers regarding contracting.

Operational Finance & Business Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the small stations and bureau staff regarding operational expenses, purchasing, employee reimbursements, procards, contracting, travel, etc.
  • Provide guidance and support with purchasing and eplaza ordering.
  • Hold a procard and/or Multi-to-one card for sundry and emergency expenses.
  • Code and approve invoices and  procard transactions.
  • Advise production staff on application of CBC policies and procedures relating to Finance, Business Affairs and collective agreements.
  • Prepare transaction forms for new employees, renewals and assignment changes.
  • Provide support to staff with the preparation of employee expense reimbursements in TEMS (Travel Expense Management System) and My Source as required.
  • Serve as primary validator for TEMS claims, ensuring claims are valid, adhere to CBC policy and are prepared and allocated correctly.
  • Other finance and business support duties as required.

Budgeting & Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare month end accruals for Livelink contracts, staff OT & TOIL, casual timecards and operating expenses.
  • Prepare budgets / cost estimates for special projects and programming initiatives.
  • Prepare cost tracking reports.
  • Track, reconcile and repost expenses in SAP as necessary.
  • Prepare quarter end balance sheet exhibits.
  • Prepare deposit paperwork  as necessary and send to Toronto finance for banking.
  • Assist with month end and year end closing procedures.
  • Other financial reporting duties as required.

We are looking for a candidate with the following: 

  • A university degree or college diploma is required.
  • Professional accounting designation is considered and asset.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word).
  • Experience with SAP and Livelink would be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of contract management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
