We are currently seeking a Manager, Business Banking & Lease Credit Support to join our Credit Support & Recovery team. The Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction to a team of collections specialists. Under their management, guidance will be given for collection activities for the delinquent and non-performing lease and loan portfolios of WS Leasing, Mercado Capital Corporation; and the Commercial Services Division (including Small Business).

What you’ll do:

People Leadership

  • Manages the staffing requirements for the Credit Support and Recovery department, hires, trains, coaches, measures performance, disciplines, and terminates as required.
  • Sets and communicates annual goals and objectives in conjunction with Director, Credit Support and Recovery.
  • Provides leadership and leads by example in regard to the organization’s vision and values.
  • Engages staff in decision-making and progression of the Strategic Plan wherever possible.
  • Facilitates regular meetings with employees for communication, employee development, or motivational purposes.
  • Supports and communicates corporate change initiatives to employees in a positive fashion.
  • Shares issues and solutions and coaches employees on how to handle unusual situations to assist with employee development.
  • Shares issues and solutions with pier managers and, where appropriate, staff in other departments.
  • Provides non-monetary rewards and recognition to employees throughout the year.
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee performance, issues and information.

Delinquency Control

  • Manages the portfolio of delinquent and non-performing loans and lease accounts including asset inventory management and remarketing.
  • Controls delinquency, default and write off ratios within budget.
  • Manages all collection and legal actions to maximize recoveries.
  • Develops and ensures adherence to a structured day to day collection processes.
  • Conducts weekly meetings with employees to review status of all delinquent, non-performing and write-off recovery accounts.
  • Coaches employees on effective collection techniques, realization actions, legal remedies and turnaround management strategies.
  • Exercises authority, where delegated, to enforce security or engage and instruct legal counsel when legal action is required.
  • Engages appropriate professional insolvency practitioners as necessary in the course of enforcing real and personal property security interests.
  • Manages the prompt exchange of information with insolvency professionals to ensure timely enforcement of security and recovery of realization proceeds.
  • Manages insurance claims and related negotiations or legal actions.

Asset Inventory Management & Remarketing

  • Establishes and maintains efficient and effective systems and procedures for management of asset inventories including end of term and defaulted lease inventory, real estate and chattels.
  • Ensures all legal notices are properly served and lapse dates are monitored for necessary arrangements for inspection or condition reports and repairs are handled cost effectively;
  • Ensures distribution of complete marketing information relating to assets for sale.
  • Ensures the placement and movement of assets to enhance resale value is managed effectively.
  • Manages vendor/broker relationships for assets listed for sale.
  • Negotiates competitive terms and conditions with insolvency practitioners, dealers, brokers and vendors.
  • Manages the negotiation of assets for sale and within delegated limits, accepts or declines offers to purchase and refers qualified applicants for lease/loan financing.
  • Ensures all sales are commercially reasonable and documented accordingly.

Management of Recovery of Bad Debt & Deficiency on Sale of Assets

  • Supervises internal collection action and engages 3rd party collection agents when cost effective.
  • Engages legal counsel as necessary to serve formal demands and statutory notices before and after seizure and sale.
  • Ensures action plans for realization, remarketing and recovery are up to date and effective.
  • Engages counsel, under delegated authority, to pursue legal actions where cost effective.
  • Represents (or delegates representation to responsible Senior Credit Support Officers) when necessary to attend discovery meetings, court appearances or settlement conferences.
  • Manages actions in Small Claims Court and Supreme Court as necessary.

Reports

  • Prepares accurate and timely reports on a regular basis to senior management.
  • Develops and maintains effective processes, systems and procedures for collection activities.
  • Identifies and discusses potential losses or problems that may result in future write-offs with senior management.
  • Prepares Write-off Recommendations for authorization by senior management.
  • Provides information, explanations and accurate reports as required from time to time by senior management and internal/external auditors.
  • Communicates collection experience and trends to sales, credit, and administration staff to mitigate credit risk.
  • Informs credit officers of known high risk customers.

What you bring:

Experience

5 years’ experience in progressively more senior credit and collection positions with a minimum of 2 years management experience in a commercial credit and collections role with experience in cars, light trucks, heavy equipment and real estate for consumer, commercial and fleet applications.

Related Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business financial statements and identify business insolvency problems/solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of vehicle and equipment marketing.
  • Expert knowledge of consumer and commercial insolvency law including federal and provincial legislation, particularly consumer protection legislation, provincial PPSA and federal insolvency legislation, both the BIA and CCAA.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on detail.
  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to interact both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop staff to achieve their individual objectives.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Sound judgement/decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge and comfort level with computer software programs i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Lease Complete, and Credit Union Banking Systems.
