T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 31 stores across the country: 13 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 10 in Ontario, and 1 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.
The Role
Reporting to Manager, Human Resources Information System and Compensation & Benefits, the payroll analyst is responsible for processing employee terminations independently in compliance with statutory requirements nationally and provincially, as well as in accordance with company policy. Working closely with our Compensation & Benefits team and our HR advisors and counterparts in other regions, the jobholder will also be responsible for specific payroll duties as assigned, and perform other duties as required from time to time.
Major Responsibilities
Partner closely with our HR Advisors in other regions and provide support and guidelines on matters related to payroll and related policies and procedures
Process all employee terminations in compliance with statutory requirements; calculate manual adjustments and final payments; prepare Records of Employment and employment references; maintain communication with terminating employees
Process full payroll for employees in specific regions; ensure all payroll related employee records are set up properly and payroll entries (payments and deductions) are calculated and inputted accurately; ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time
Ensure pay statements are distributed to staff promptly on pay day
Run work hours and labor cost reports for all stores and offices, as well as for Finance and Accounting Department
Perform various administrative and supporting duties for the team; deal with all ad hoc requests from Service Canada and Statistics Canada; provide data and information related to current or past employees, survey information
Provide support to internal and external payroll auditing. Answer enquiries on payroll related matters
Provide support and work with the Manager to establish and maintain related policies and ensure these policies are properly enforced and observed by all stakeholders
Support the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR Department by performing any assigned duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
A college diploma/certificate or undergraduate degree in Human Resources Management is required; payroll certification is desirable
At least 1 year of solid experience in handing payroll
Possess proved ability to process full cycle of a complex payroll independently for at least 1,000 employees
Knowledge of Employment Standards Acts of BC, AB, ON and QC is required
Knowledge of payroll software is preferred
Experience in dealing with Service Canada and Statistics Canada will be an asset
Highly detail-oriented, with quick accurate keyboarding skills
Able to handle confidential information professionally and in an ethical manner
High level of integrity and ethics; able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong Microsoft Office technical skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must be able to communication in English fluently
Able to communicate in Chinese (Cantonese &/or Mandarin) is an asset
