Why This Role is Important

The Controller ensures the corporate Financial functions operate seamlessly, from supporting departments with budgeting to managing our corporate books, all day to day Finance functions will run through you. The Controller is consulted on Pricing (products and logistics), Expense related decisions (purchasing, claims, etc.), Strategic planning for entire corporation and interplay between them for goods manufactured in one entity but sold via another, and Royalty reporting to universities for licensed cell lines

What You'll Be Doing

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the business’s day-to-day financial operations, analyzes and develops financial information, and is the owner of the financial close process. The Controller monitor’s the business’s financial health by developing, implementing, and maintaining financial controls and guidelines. This is performed through:

• All management of the inflow and outflow of cash
  • Accounting​
    • Bookkeeping, financial statements, A/R, A/P, cashflow​
  • Bank account and bank relationship management​
  • Payroll​
  • Sales, Employment and Corporate Tax management
  • Promotional materials of cash value (i.e. preloaded VISA cards)
• Financial Oversight​
  • Financial strategies​
  • Financial Planning​
  • Budget preparations and forecasting​
  • Royalty Reporting​
  • Financial Reporting​
  • Loans and grants​
  • Equity management​
  • Financial Risk and mitigation strategies​
  • Financial system(s) management

Your Experience

Applied Biological Materials team members have wide and varied backgrounds. Overall, we find people who are successful in this role have the following:

• Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Financial Controller designations highly preferred
• Minimum of five years’ experience in auditing or cost control
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a management or leadership capacity
• Strong working knowledge of detail financial data analysis
• Strong competency in financial management software
• Strong understanding of Canadian tax system, US and/or Europe an asset
• Master of Business Administration an asset
