About the Organization

Created in 2008 and privately held, Harmac Pacific Pulp operates a Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill on the east coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, BC. Nanaimo Forest Products (NFP) Ltd., the owner of the Harmac Pacific trademark, restarted the mill with a single production line on October 3, 2008. Since that time the mill has grown to two production lines and a capacity of 380,000 tonnes of world class pulp per year.

In addition, as of 2013, instillation has been complete of a 25 MW Green Energy turbo-generator which we currently use to sell power to BC Hydro. 

About the Opportunity

Harmac has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Accounting Coordinator –Fibre Systems to join our 380,000 tonne per year pulp mill in Nanaimo, BC

Reporting to the Financial Manager and CFO, you will be responsible for all aspects of fibre accounting and control and will assist the Fibre Supply Coordinator with fibre supply logistics, as required. You will also work directly with the Fibre Manager on fibre related accounting issues. 

Key accountabilities of this role include: 

  • Accounting, controlling, analyzing and reporting on all aspects of mill fibre, including receipts, usage, payments, forecasts, and inventory control (approx. $120 million per year); 
  • Developing a thorough knowledge of all fibre supply agreements and contracts, as well as all transportation agreements that relate to fibre supply to ensure proper payment of invoices and adherence to contracts;  
  • Working directly with the Fibre Manager and the Production Manager in preparing fibre supply forecasts and projected inventory levels assist with other projects as assigned, including assisting the Fiber Supply Coordinator with pulp log inspections prior to purchasing new inventory; 
  • Coordinating and participating in the physical inventory of logs, reconciling and resolving discrepancies between physical counts and book inventories by working with an external contract employee;  
  • Monitoring the out turn from custom chipping contracts on a monthly basis and make site visits to chipping facilities, as needed; 
  • Ownership of the Fibre Procurement Computerized System; 
  • Providing accounting assistance for Forestry Certification Chain of Custody; and 
  • Assisting in the organization of fibre transportation from suppliers to the pulp mill.

To qualify for this role, you will have relevant post-secondary education and must be extremely organized, work well independently, and as part of a team. 

If you also have knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Office, you will do well in this role.
