ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY 

Methanex currently has an exciting career opportunity for a Financial Analyst to join our team in Medicine Hat on a full-time basis. 

In this role, you will provide analytical and financial support for the Methanex Medicine Hat site in the form of capital cost management and reporting, forecasting and budgeting, and economic evaluations to facilitate informed business decisions and effective management of resources. 

You will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Our ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in business, economics, finance or accounting and will have two to five years of experience in a relevant accounting position(s) with demonstrated experience in fixed asset accounting, capital budgets, reporting and financial analysis preferred. Completion, or current enrollment, in a professional designation program is preferred.

Our successful candidate will also possess:

  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and standards, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Solid knowledge and experience preparing financial reports
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of financial software and Microsoft Office programs, including advanced Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley legislation relevant to accounting processes
  • Experience in project planning and cost management (asset)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills
  • Strong prioritization, planning, and time management skills demonstrated by the consistent ability to meet tight deadlines
  • The ability to independently respond to highly complicated and sensitive matters in a professional manner (with guidance required in only the most complex situations)
  • The ability to think and act in a systematic and analytical manner
  • Strategic agility, including the ability to analyze and interpret data, accurately identify trends and issues, recognize similarities between current and past circumstances, and anticipate future consequences and trends
  • Superior business acumen including a demonstrated understanding of the fundamental dynamics of the market, how the business is positioned within the wider industry and how the business impacts financial results

You demonstrate sound judgment and have a recognized ability to generate effective options in response to issues and make valuable decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, and experience. Above all, you must have the ability to develop and maintain positive peer relationships, including strong team collaboration skills
