The Senior Accountant is a full-time 12 month term position supporting a maternity leave, based at Nch’ḵay̓’s Head Office on the Squamish Nation’s Xwemélch’stn (Capilano) Reserve in West Vancouver, B.C. We encourage you to read about the meaning and significance of these values here. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for completing the daily accounting operations (full-cycle), of multiple entities, ensuring compliance, and preparing consolidated financial reports & statements. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of IFRS, excellent analytical skills, strong attention to deadlines, and the ability to work collaboratively with different teams. This role is an 12 month term position supporting a maternity leave. Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities Complete day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting in compliance with IFRS. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements and reports in a timely and accurate manner. Analyze financial data and provide insights into financial performance to support decision-making processes. Responsibility for project accounting across the business, including creating, maintaining and reviewing costs associated with operational and future projects. Business partnering with internal and external project partners. Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in financial reporting. Support and mentor junior accounting staff and guide them on accounting issues and processes. Advise on technical accounting approaches, for example, IFRS 16 Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and other financial documents. Support the implementation and conduct regular audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve any discrepancies in the ERP system. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve accounting issues and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax regulations and coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process. Prepare monthly reports as required, including GST, WCB, and government remittances. Prepare and file tax returns and other statutory reporting. Other Perform other duties as required. Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor Accounting Manager Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; or equivalent preferred. A Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA) designation or equivalent, such as an CPA (US) or ACCA (UK) is required. Minimum 4 years’ experience of full cycle accounting. Strong experience in project accounting. Experience mentoring junior accounting staff. Strong understanding of IFRS and Canadian accounting principles and regulations. Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process Self-motivated and results-focused Good organizational and time-management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders. Elevated levels of integrity and ability to manage confidential information. Ability to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and as a member of a team. Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines. Proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks, NetSuite) Experience working with First Nations is an asset.
