This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant based in Canada. This is an opportunity to take ownership of end-to-end revenue accounting within a fast-growing SaaS and technology environment. You will oversee revenue recognition across software licensing, subscriptions, professional services, implementation, and support offerings. The role provides significant exposure to ASC 606, contract accounting, deferred revenue, and complex multi-element arrangements. You will work closely with Sales, Legal, FP&A, Tax, Billing, Collections, and Customer Success to resolve issues and improve financial visibility. As a subject-matter expert, you will contribute to monthly and quarterly close activities, audits, reporting, and technical accounting matters. You will also identify opportunities to strengthen processes, improve controls, and increase the accuracy and efficiency of revenue operations. Accountabilities Own and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures in accordance with ASC 606 across software licenses, SaaS subscriptions, web-based products, implementation services, and support offerings. Prepare and review monthly revenue journal entries, deferred revenue roll-forwards, account reconciliations, and related close activities. Ensure accurate accounting for variable consideration, contract modifications, multi-element arrangements, and principal-versus-agent considerations. Manage accounting for costs associated with obtaining and fulfilling customer contracts under ASC 340-40, including capitalization and amortization schedules for contract costs and related royalties. Monitor and reconcile deferred commission and other contract cost balances, including assessing balances for potential impairment. Contribute to monthly and quarterly financial close processes through journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting documentation. Prepare bad debt reserve calculations using aging analysis, historical loss rates, and specific identification methodologies, while communicating relevant trends to management. Reconcile intercompany accounts, including transfer pricing activity, and investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Support sales and use tax research, nexus analysis, and related accounting entries in coordination with Tax teams and external advisors. Partner with external auditors by preparing PBC schedules, responding to audit requests, and providing accurate supporting documentation. Collaborate with Billing, Collections, Sales Operations, and Customer Success to resolve customer accounting questions and billing disputes. Work with FP&A and business leaders to provide revenue and gross margin reporting and analysis that supports financial and operational decision-making. Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and internal controls. Support additional general ledger responsibilities and ad hoc accounting initiatives as needed. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline; CPA certification is preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful revenue recognition experience within a technology, software, or SaaS environment. Deep working knowledge of ASC 606, including multi-element arrangements, contract modifications, and principal-versus-agent considerations. Hands-on experience with revenue accounting across SaaS, subscription and perpetual licensing, professional services, and web-based product offerings. Strong understanding of ASC 340-40 contract cost accounting, including costs to obtain and fulfill customer contracts. Experience with bad debt reserve methodologies, including aging analysis, historical loss rates, and specific identification. Demonstrated experience preparing PBC schedules and supporting external financial audits. Advanced Excel capabilities, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP, and complex formulas. Proficiency with a major ERP platform such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or a comparable system. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical accounting concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. Strong ownership, accountability, professionalism, adaptability, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
