Job summary

Are you a CPA working in construction accounting who is ready for more ownership? Perhaps you’re already a Controller looking for a hands-on role where you can have a greater impact, or you’re an experienced Accounting Manager, Finance Manager or Senior Accountant who has built strong construction accounting expertise and is ready to take the next step. Our client, an established General Contractor in Mississauga, is looking for a Financial Controller to lead its accounting function and become a key financial partner to its construction and executive teams. This isn’t a role where you’ll be buried several layers deep in a large finance department. You’ll have visibility, autonomy and direct exposure to senior leadership while working closely with Project Managers, Estimators and construction leaders to understand what’s happening across projects — and what the numbers are telling the business. What You’ll Own As Controller, you’ll take responsibility for the company’s day-to-day financial operations and project accounting, including: Leading monthly and quarterly financial reporting and close Managing budgeting, forecasting and cash flow Overseeing job costing, WIP reporting and EAC/cost-to-complete forecasting Reviewing project performance, margins and profitability Partnering with Project Managers and Estimators to improve financial visibility across projects Identifying cost variances and potential margin erosion Overseeing AP, AR, payroll and general accounting Supporting and developing the Project Accountant Maintaining strong financial controls and reporting processes Ensuring compliance with ASPE/GAAP Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, processes and reporting Providing financial insight to senior leadership to support business decisions What We’re Looking For You don’t necessarily need to already have Controller on your résumé. We’re interested in experienced construction accounting professionals who have the technical foundation and leadership ability to take ownership of the function. You should bring: CPA designation 6+ years of progressive accounting experience Accounting experience within construction or General Contracting Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP and EAC/project forecasting Experience partnering with Project Managers and/or operational teams Previous people leadership or mentoring experience Strong financial reporting and month-end capabilities Advanced Excel skills Experience working with accounting/ERP systems Strong understanding of ASPE/GAAP The confidence to challenge numbers, ask questions and communicate financial information to non-finance leaders Who Could Be a Great Fit? Requirements
