About

The 𝐅𝐌𝐁 provides First Nations with the tools required to govern their communities and manage finances. It supports First Nations in development of sound finance and administrative governance practices. The 𝐅𝐌𝐁 is a non-profit, non-governmental organization. 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: In the Spring of 2005, the Government of Canada enacted the 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝐹𝑖𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐴𝑐𝑡 (𝑭𝑴𝑨) which gave First Nations the option to participate under the 𝙁𝙈𝘼. To enable First Nations to participate, the 𝙁𝙈𝘼 established three Indigenous Institutions: 1. First Nations Finance Authority (𝐅𝐍𝐅𝐀) 2. First Nations Tax Commission (𝐅𝐍𝐓𝐂) 3. First Nations Financial Management Board (𝐅𝐌𝐁) The purpose of these institutions was to create a mechanism to provide support and tools to First Nations to strengthen their communities and build foundations for economic development.
