Silveira Professional Accountants is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our public accounting firm. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, client-focused professional with strong full-cycle bookkeeping experience and the ability to manage multiple client files accurately and efficiently. The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining complete and reliable financial records, preparing government remittances, supporting year-end files, and delivering high-quality service to a diverse client base. Key Responsibilities Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, payroll accounts, and balance sheet accounts accurately and on schedule. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including trial balances, working papers, and supporting schedules. Prepare and file GST/HST, payroll source deductions, WSIB, and other government remittances as required. Support year-end preparation by organizing client records, identifying discrepancies, and preparing clean, complete files for review by accountants. Review client bookkeeping records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards. Communicate professionally with clients to request information, resolve questions, explain bookkeeping matters, and support timely completion of work. Assist with payroll processing, T4 preparation, ROEs, and related payroll compliance matters. Mentor junior bookkeeping staff, review selected work, and provide guidance on best practices and firm procedures. Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, consistency, and accuracy across client files. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of progressive bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting firm or multi-client bookkeeping environment. Payroll and tax background. Post-secondary education in accounting, bookkeeping, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Strong knowledge of Canadian bookkeeping practices, payroll compliance, GST/HST filings, and government remittance requirements. Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with cloud-based accounting tools and client portals. Experience preparing year-end working paper files and supporting accountants during review, compilation, or tax preparation engagements is an asset. Skills and Attributes Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities. Professional communication skills and the ability to build positive client relationships. Sound judgment, discretion, and respect for confidentiality. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accountants, partners, and administrative staff. Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve bookkeeping discrepancies.
