Position: Payroll Technician Posting Type: External Status: 1 full-time, vacant position Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday Compensation Level: $66,341 - $88,454 Application Opening: September 15, 2026 Application Deadline: September 29, 2026 The Brantford Police Service is currently accepting applications for a full-time Payroll Technician. PURPOSE OF POSITION Under the direction of the Supervisor of Finance and Administration, the Payroll Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for our members. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payroll functions, processing employee time and attendance data, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and collective agreements. All members of the Finance team are expected to cross train in order to provide support in other areas of the Finance section in the event of absences. Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Management of the Service’s scheduling system (InTime) Process and reconcile payroll transactions accurately and in a timely manner Collaborate with HR and other departments/units to resolve payroll or scheduling related issues Calculate and process special pay adjustments, overtime, and other relevant payroll elements Prepare payroll reports for management and conduct regular audits to ensure data accuracy Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll/scheduling matters in a professional and timely manner Other duties as required and/or assigned NOTE: The duties listed are not set forth for the purpose of limiting the assignment of work. KNOWLEDGE Post-secondary degree in Business or 3-year diploma in Business Administration At least 2 years of relevant work experience in payroll processing, preferably in a law enforcement or government setting Strong understanding of payroll principles Proficient in the use of payroll/scheduling software and MS Office applications SKILLS Excellent oral and written communication skills A problem solver who thinks outside of the box with innovative solutions Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy in data entry Strong organizational and time-management skill Aptitude to learn new software and systems ABILITIES Ability to be adaptable in an organization undergoing significant change, diversification and modernization Ability to exercise good judgment and make good decisions Ability to learn, understand and establish a good working knowledge of the organizational structure, routine orders, policy and procedures Ability to observe, retain and prepare clear, concise and accurate reports and operate general office equipment Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority Must be capable of handling multi-tasks, produce work under strict and definitive deadlines Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information Interested applicants are invited to complete a Brantford Police Service Application Form and submit it electronically no later than Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 4:00pm.
