Job summary
A growing real estate investment and property management organization is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join its finance team. Reporting to the Manager, Property Accounting, this role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting for a dedicated portfolio of multi-family properties and related corporate entities. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who enjoys the technical aspects of accounting and month-end close while also looking for exposure to a growing real estate portfolio and opportunities to improve processes. Key Responsibilities Own full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of multi-family properties and related entities. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial and management reporting, including variance analysis. Complete month-end close entries and ensure transactions and subledgers are accurate and complete. Prepare recurring entries for mortgages, prepayments, property taxes, accruals, deferred financing costs and related-party transactions. Complete bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations. Record acquisitions, mortgages, refinancing and property dispositions. Prepare and reconcile construction draw requests. Maintain accounts receivable and intercompany transactions. Support property-related accounts payable, invoice coding and vendor inquiries. Assist with annual budgets and reforecasts. Prepare audit working papers and assist with year-end requirements. Prepare and file HST returns and remittances. Support accounting process improvements, system enhancements and special projects. What We're Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate or a related field. 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, property management or fund management. Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end close within a multi-entity environment. Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting systems and large data sets. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. A collaborative, proactive and solutions-oriented approach. Nice to Have CPA designation or active enrolment in the CPA program. Experience with Yardi or a similar property management/accounting system. Exposure to IFRS reporting, limited partnerships or investment fund accounting. Experience supporting real estate acquisitions, refinancing or development projects. Interested candidates are invited to apply in confidence.
