Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Analyst performs a variety of tasks in the preparation, processing, maintenance, verification and reconciliation of payroll/benefit records.

DUTIES

  • Accurate calculation and input of payroll information into payroll system including retroactive pay changes, verification of allowances, benefits, taxes, voluntary and mandatory deductions, and banking information.
  • Ensuring accurate deductions/remittances for Union Dues, Credit Unions, Canada Saving Bonds, Garnishments, United Way.
  • Calculate accurate pay adjustments for ITD (75% sick leave) and leave without pay.
  • Monitor and process payroll entries to track benefit deductions and employer contributions for employees on long term leaves. Prepare cost of benefit calculations for employees.
  • Processing of severance and vacation payments for terminated employees, remit RRSP payments to the appropriate financial institutions, and preparation/issuance of Record of Employment (ROE).
  • Answering inquiries from and provide information to employees, various departments within CNL (Finance, Human Resources), and outside agencies (Human Resource Development Canada (HRDC), Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), etc).
  • Other payroll-related functions to be assigned and completed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 year College diploma in Business Administration(or equivalent education/training) plus a minimum of 4 years related (or equivalent) experience
  • Level 1 (Payroll Administrator) in Canadian Payroll Association classification program.
  • Five (5) years experience in payroll processing in a high volume payroll environment preferred.
  • Three (3) years experience in Ceridian Payflex processing preferred.
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Experience with Defined Benefit Pension Plans and PeopleSoft is a definite asset.

  • Ability to manage time and competing priorities effectively including various activities ranging from the detail oriented to the strategic/complex.
  • Willing to work over-time when required to meet payroll deadlines.
  • Communication Skills – superior oral and written communication skills required; must be able to confidently deal with the entire range of employees and display a Can-Do attitude.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management is required.
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency in Excel and Word, Payroll & HRIS systems, comfortable with new technologies and automated processes.
